Dialogue Restoration & Editorial
Production dialogue rarely arrives perfectly clean. Background noise, clothing movement, mic bumps, inconsistent recording levels and changes between microphones can all make a scene feel distracting or uneven.
We use professional restoration software alongside detailed manual editing to repair these problems as transparently as possible. Rather than simply applying heavy noise reduction across an entire scene, dialogue is assessed line by line, selecting the strongest available microphone source, removing unwanted artefacts, matching tone and perspective, rebuilding room tone where required and manually balancing levels so conversations remain natural and performances retain their original dynamics.
Dialogue restoration can significantly improve difficult production audio, but there are limits to what can be recovered from a recording. Severe clipping, dialogue completely masked by noise, heavy microphone distortion or unusable rustle may occasionally require an alternative microphone source, another take or ADR.
Where this happens, we’ll flag it during the editorial process and recommend the most practical solution rather than over-processing the original recording and compromising the performance.
